My 34th Show
This show is hot. The boys are clearly excited to play, Brent is outstanding this whole run, and the transition from Uncle John’s to Estimated is something you’d expect more from Yes then the Dead. Pretty mind blowing. Just a great way to sum up a really fun, exciting year for the band. I checked out a bunch of 1988 shows, then circled back around for this one, and it’s just so much better as a whole. Better energy, better focus, better interaction. I feel that in 1988 there was a little backsliding in general. Did Jerry fall off the wagon? Don’t know. Two steps up, one step back I guess. But we know what happened after that . . . A giant leap forward!

Very strong performance. Excellent sounding remaster by Charlie too. One of my fellow reviewers mentioned Jerry crying during Peggy-o. 1987 was a very emotional year after his near death experience the year before. Most people don't live through a diabetic coma. That's what killed my grandmother Christmas day 1969. It also killed jazz giant Eric Dolphy at age 36 in 1964. Too bad Jerry eventually went back to heroin.

Peggy o' for the ages!
This was my first Bay Area show as well, so I have very fond memories of that night. What I will never forget, however, is the absolutely breathtaking
Peggy O'. Although quite short, the solo is one of the most emotional, melancholy tales Jer has ever
created. At one point, Brent follows him note for note in a moment that sends shivers down my spine
still. On 'sweet William, he is dead', Jerry is crying! Despite having heard hundreds of versions of this song, I always come back to this. A profoundly moving, beautiful moment. Brings tears to my eyes yet...

An excellent show!
I was there all four nights and had a wonderful run---the only New Year's I attended. What luck! This sounds wonderful. I have a terrific audience of this night---the only good audience I've ever had of this venue, which leads me to suspect it may be a matrix butI need to hear it again. The transition from Uncle John's to Estimated is utterly fantastic---talk about "just like a Swiss watch"! They never did it again. It was my first Bay Area show (did Calaveras in the summer, my first Cali shows) and it holds a dear place in my heart.
Charlie Miller should probably win some kind of public service award and it will be my honour to shake his hand someday.
